LAFAYETTE -- As Carol Decker flipped through the old journal -- this one from 1983 -- it brought back memories of a walk along the Jersey Shore. Among the handwritten notes were sketches of herons and egrets, ducks and geese and terns diving and eating their catch.

Culinary students show cooking is an art
The Roanoke Arts Festival continued this weekend. On Sunday, local culinary students showed off their skills in the kitchen. The Culinary Institute with Virginia Western Community College had an open house at the Claude Moore Education Complex as a part of the city-wide festival.

Veterans Memorial and Memorial Park Dedication Tuesday
In honor of Veterans Day, the city of Plano will hold a dedication ceremony of the new Veterans Memorial and the renovated Memorial Park at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 11. The public is invited to attend the ceremony that will honor United States veterans and will feature the unveiling of the sculpture “Sacrifice.”

Belfast An artist from Northern Ireland has revealed a unique collection of sculptures made entirely from sugar cubes. Brendan Jamison, 29, can take up to two months to create each model. He recently crafted a 1:1000 scale model of new apartments planned for the city’s Cathedral Quarter.
