Rare John Gould bird books are sold for £1.2m
London A set of John Gould's celebrated books of bird illustrations sold for £1,252,500 at Christie's in London yesterday. The 40 volumes were mainly first editions and included one of his masterpieces, The Birds of Australia, which appeared in 41 parts over 30 years.
