Art festival recovers after a very wet start
An art festival at Edens Plaza got off to a rough start under storm clouds Saturday, but improving weather drew crowds to 27 exhibitors around the west side shopping center. The American Society of Artists, a Palatine-based organization, has held summer shows at the plaza for 15 years, said President Nancy Fregin. The artists include oil and water color painters, sculptors, and photographers.

'Portrait' honors soldiers who died in service
Friends and relatives from Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Elk Grove and Chicago's Northwest Side scanned sketches of 180 fallen soldiers for those they knew and loved at the Des Plaines Library. They visited the memorial -- an exhibit of hand-drawn portraits of Illinois men and women who have died in service since Sept. 11, 2001.
