Curator's yen is for fine China
SALEM and mdash; Just when the whole world seems to be headed to Beijing for the opening of the 2008 Olympic Games, Nancy Berliner is coming home. Berliner, the curator of Chinese art at the Peabody Essex Museum, flew back from Beijing this week after working on a building project that, in historic, architectural and artistic significance, dwarfs anything constructed for the Olympics.

Museum holds legends, lore and Elvis in A.J.
I pity any building that has to stand in front of the Superstitions. Few, if any, man-made structures could pull the eyes from those fabled rocks, which seem to rise in front of you as you drive out of Apache Junction on state Route 88. >> Video: Tour Superstition Mountain Museum with Michael Grady

Underworld Unveil New Art Exhibit in NYC
As with all art openings, the crowds come to congratulate the artist (of course), to see the work (naturally), and also (duh!) for the open bar, boozy schmoozing, and those adorable little hors d'oeuvres. And the crowd that came out last night (Aug. 7) was no different, but rather than saluting the latest artist to hit the gallery scene, they were there to congratulate Underworld's Karl Hyde ...

Download 2008 Philadelphia: In Pictures
Trekking from festival to festival this summer has certainly been exciting, and last weekend's Download 2008 event in Philadelphia, the closing stop of a three-show journey, was certainly no exception. One artist's version of not getting the picture
"To Whom It May Concern," the late John Cage once remarked, alluding to the work of his colleague Robert Rauschenberg, "the white paintings came first; my silent piece came later." It may be useful to recall Cage's words, and their various artistic ramifications, as you walk into the Sfeir-Semler Gallery these days.
