Couple carves out artistic pursuit
BLUE EARTH - For Harley and Midge Schmitgen, woodcarving is like creating music. The Blue Earth couple teaches carving and has become popular among woodcarvers across the nation. "You're popular, but you don't know how long you're going to popular," Harley said. He has worked at Blue Earth Monument for nearly 50 years, sandblasting monuments.

A nice turnout is expected for today’s Fun Run to benefit the Fayetteville Museum of Art. There’s still time to register beginning at 7 a.m. at Honeycutt Park, 352 Devers St. The cost is $20. The 5k starts at the park at 8 a.m. and goes through the hills of Skye Drive and the Summertime neighborhood.

No cultural village at festival
A miscommunication between the Summer Festival and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe resulted in no cultural village at this year's festival. The events schedule states that a Native American cultural village would be on display on Friday and Saturday.
